5 Things Which Prove That Women Are The Stronger Sex

In almost every society in the world, women are seen as the weaker sex. Centuries of patriarchy have cemented this view for many, but we want to see women celebrated for the forces of nature that they really are!

So here are our top 5 reasons why women are actually the stronger sex!

1. Our immune system is stronger

Although we often joke about 'man flu', it has actually been proved that women are better at fending off illness, and it's all to do with genetics. Whilst men have XY chromosomes, women have XX chromosomes, and its the extra X that makes all the difference. Scientists have found that strands of microRNAs on the X chromosome have important functions in immunity and cancer. Who knew?

2. We have been proved to be better at managing our money

Maybe it's becuase of the traditional gender role of the woman lookign after the family and house, but a study in 2010 sowed that women were less likely to find themselves in debt and worked harder to become financially independent. That's not to say we don't splash the cash on occasions, with 60% of all online shopping being done by women and the average women spending a staggering 8.5 years of her life shopping!

3. We have to give birth

It's a grim business, but someone has to do it! Without women being able to carry another human in their bodies for 9 months and then spend hours in agony trying to bring them into the world, then the human race would be extinct!

4. We are better at communicating

Whilst men tend to show their feelings through actions, often aggressively, most women are capable of holding their temper and discussing problems face to face without physical conflict.

5. Despite being oppressed in many cultures, we are still contributing huge things to the world

Marie Curie, Florence Nightingale, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks... the list goes on and on!

However women still face challenges in many places....

In today's world, it is unacceptable that women are poorer than men in all racial and ethnic groups. Fewer than 20% of all women in Africa have access to education. Women in sub-Saharan Africa are 230 times more likely to die during childbirth or pregnancy than women in North America. Sadly it seems that #PovertyIsSexist

Let's do what we can to empower those women across the world who aren't as fortunate as we are. Can you donate to our women empowerment projects? Ripples Foundation is working tirelessly to improve the lives of thousands of rural village women across West Africa so they can support their children and have a brighter future for their communities. Take a look at our website to follow the work that we do: and please donate what you can by clicking here

So let's celebrate women everywhere who have achieved and will continue to achieve greatness.
